Interior Painting for Stanwood Homes
In a damp climate, what is behind a wall matters as much as the color on it.
A brown ring on a ceiling or a bubble in wall paint usually means water got in. Painting over it hides the symptom and leaves the problem growing. We are a water damage and mold company, so we check stains with a moisture meter before we prime. If the area is still wet, we find and fix the source first.
Stanwood's long, damp winters also bring condensation. It collects on cold exterior walls, in closets and in bathroom corners, and mildew follows. We use mildew-resistant paint in bathrooms and laundry rooms, and we can check that exhaust fans are doing their job. Fresh paint over a mildew problem will not last without the moisture fix.
Older homes need extra care. About 18 percent of Stanwood's homes were built before 1980, according to U.S. Census data. Paint in homes built before 1978 may contain lead, and EPA rules govern how that paint can be sanded or scraped. We check the build year and explain what it means for your project before prep begins.
Our process
How Interior Painting Works
Five steps from choosing colors to the final touch-up.
Walk through and pick colors
We walk the rooms with you, note repairs and talk about colors and sheens. Any stains or damp spots get a moisture check. The scope and price go into a written estimate.
Protect the room
Furniture is moved to the center or out of the room and covered. Floors, counters and fixtures are masked. Outlet covers and switch plates come off so paint lines stay clean.
Repair and prime
Holes and cracks are filled, sanded smooth and spot-primed. Water and smoke stains get a stain-blocking primer so they do not bleed through. Gaps along trim are caulked for a crisp finish.
Paint ceilings, walls and trim
Ceilings go first, then walls, then trim and doors. We cut in edges by hand and roll the walls evenly. Most rooms get two finish coats for full, even color.
Clean up and walk through
Masking comes off, covers go back on and furniture returns to its place. We walk through each room with you in good light. Any missed spots are touched up before we leave.
What we paint
Interior Painting Projects We Take On
From one room to a whole house, each project gets the prep and paint that suit the space.
Walls and ceilings
Flat or matte finishes hide imperfections on ceilings. Eggshell and satin clean up better on walls in busy rooms. We help you pick the right sheen for each space.
Trim, doors and baseboards
Semi-gloss enamel on trim and doors stands up to scuffs and wipes clean. Clean lines between trim and walls make the whole room look sharper.
Bathrooms and laundry rooms
These rooms need paint that resists moisture and mildew. We make sure the walls are dry and clean before painting. We also point out ventilation problems that would shorten the paint's life.
Painting after water damage
After a leak is repaired and the structure is dry, we prime and repaint to match. Stain-blocking primer keeps old marks from bleeding through. When insurance applies, repainting can be part of the repair scope.
Interior painting FAQ
Interior Painting Questions, Answered
Common questions about interior painting in Stanwood, WA.
How long does interior painting take?
A single room often takes a day or two, including prep. A whole-house interior can take a week or more. Repairs, high ceilings and color changes add time, and your estimate includes a schedule.
How many coats of paint do you apply?
Most walls get two finish coats for even color and durability. Big color changes or fresh drywall may also need primer first. We tell you what each room needs in the estimate.
Can you paint over a water stain on my ceiling?
Only after we confirm it is dry and the leak is fixed. We check the stain with a moisture meter. Once it is dry, a stain-blocking primer stops it bleeding through the new paint.
What paint sheen should I use?
Flat or matte for ceilings, eggshell or satin for most walls, and semi-gloss for trim, doors and bathrooms. Higher sheens clean more easily but show wall imperfections more.
Do I need to move my furniture before you arrive?
Small items, decor and valuables are best put away beforehand. We can move and cover larger furniture as part of the job. We go over the plan at the walkthrough.
My house is older. Could there be lead paint?
If it was built before 1978, it may. EPA rules set how that paint can be disturbed during prep. We check your home's age and explain what it means before any sanding or scraping starts.
Fresh paint on sound, dry walls.
We protect your home, fix what the paint would hide and finish every room cleanly. Flexible financing is offered through Enhancify, and 0% interest options may be available.
